Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema remains a key cultural hub for non-fiction enthusiasts, premiering the latest documentaries from around the world and hosting curated series, author talks and special events year-round.

The Cinema screened critically acclaimed films such as Bye Bye Tiberias, Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer, Smoke Sauna Sisterhood, 20 Days in Mariupol, To Kill a Tiger, The Space Race, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, Food Inc. 2, Wilfred Buck, and Beyond Utopia.

It also featured popular series like Doc Soup, Family Screenings and The Hottest Docs, and special programming for Asian Heritage Month, Black History Month, Pride, and more. Special events included partnerships with Ontario Science Centre, ROM, and others. In 2024, the Cinema partnered with global indie cinema juggernaut A24 for a wildly popular monthly residency of Stop Making Sense, Jonathan Demme’s seminal 1984 Talking Heads concert film.

The Cinema expanded its audience with exciting new programming, introducing popular live event series for younger viewers like The Fangirl Picture Show, Sing-Along Screenings, Thirst Talks, and new Drunk Feminist Films events.

The Hot Docs Podcast Festival, Canada’s premier podcasting event, presented a five-day program of live podcast events in October 2023, featuring beloved podcasters and exceptional non-fiction audio storytelling. The all-star lineup included legendary Canadian author Margaret Atwood, Bon Appétit’s Chris Morocco, The New Yorker Fiction Podcast’s Deborah Treisman, fashion designer Aurora James, Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, CBC Q’s Tom Power, Canadaland’s Jesse Brown, Under the Influence’s Terry O’Reilly, and more.

Curious Minds Author Talks featured prominent writers, activists and personalities, including Michael Cunningham, Sir Patrick Stewart, Dolly Alderton, Ijeoma Oluo, Michael Ondaatje and Kevin Kwan.

The popular Curious Minds Speaker Series returned with engaging live lectures on history’s most iconic power couples, the graphic arts revolution, the history of banned books, 18th-century art and architecture, Broadway’s brightest stars, and other fascinating topics.
