Over the past 20+ years, we have invested $13M in documentary film production, providing vital funding for development, production and completion grants to Canadian and international filmmakers.
The Hot Docs Canadian Storytellers Project, generously supported by Netflix, supported five Canadian documentary projects with $175K through the Hot Docs Incubator program. CrossCurrents Canada Doc Fund recipient Warrior Spirit premiered on CBC's The Passionate Eye in November and is now available to stream for free across Canada on CBC Gem.
The Hot Docs Ted Rogers Fund granted $85K to six Canadian films in its 11th round of disbursements. Fund recipient To Kill a Tiger received a Best Documentary Feature Film nomination at the 2024 Academy Awards.
The Hot Docs-Slaight Family Fund awarded a total of $127,500 to five Canadian music doc projects that celebrate music in all its forms while showcasing the profound impact of Canadian music on the global stage. Fund recipient Disco’s Revenge premiered at Hot Docs Festival 2024.
In its thirteenth round of disbursements, Hot Docs-Blue Ice Docs Fund selected seven African film projects to receive $115K in development and production grants. Fund recipient The Brink of Dreams was awarded L’Oeil D’or Prize for Best Documentary at the Festival de Cannes. Fund recipient The Mother of All Lies, directed by Asmae El Moudir, received the Best Director Award at the 39th annual IDA Documentary Awards.
