2021/22 Highlights

A Message from Hot Docs Leadership

After the many challenges of the past few years, we were thrilled to welcome audiences back to Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in September 2021 and to our first-ever hybrid Festival this past spring. After having cinemas shuttered for so long, it was inspiring and invigorating to gather once again to share the incredible stories from our global community of documentary filmmakers.

We're immensely proud of the hard work and ingenuity that carried us through the pandemic and of the many creative ways we found to further our mission: from launching Hot Docs at Home streaming platform to engage our loyal audiences and grow new national ones, to expanding the breadth and reach of our free Docs For School program online to support educators across the country; from offering filmmakers around the world virtual access to our valuable market and professional development programs, to continuing to disburse hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants from our film fund portfolio to support their important work.

As we chart our path forward to our 30th anniversary in 2023 and beyond, we’re dedicated to renewing the vital energy of our Cinema and live Festival. We're committed to creating dynamic spaces where curious minds can gather to engage with critical ideas and issues and with the storytellers who bring them to our screens.

And, as always, we'll continue to move forward with optimism, ingenuity, and enthusiasm, and with immense gratitude to our resilient filmmaking community, our generous sponsors and partners, our talented staff, and our dedicated audiences for their unwavering commitment and invaluable support.
